Transition – Learning

Welcome Letter

Hello everyone!

We hope you are all keeping well. We are the lower school team who will be supporting you in year 7. Hopefully by now you have seen the transition videos we created for you, so you’ll know just how excited we are to meet you all!

As we have not had the opportunity to visit any of you at your schools, We would like to ask that you answer a few questions for us and have a go at the tasks on the document (click here to view/print it) and send it back to your tutors in September.

We thought this would be a great way for us to start getting to know you before we meet in September!

Thank you, stay safe and we’ll see you all soon!

WOA Transition Projects

As part of the transition period from Year 6 to Year 7 we have devised some projects that your child may like to complete. Although this is not compulsory, it will aid your child in improving their knowledge and understanding of key topics from Year 6. It is also designed to initiate their catch up of the curriculum that has been missed due to the current climate.

We would ask that these projects be completed and presented to their CORE teachers in September 2020.

Primary School “All About Me” Project

Primary schools within Sandwell form part of the “All About Me” transition project set up by Sandwell Council. This is designed to be a bridging project that is started at your primary schools and shows each Secondary School the work your child is capable of. It also acts as an icebreaker activity for all core subjects in the first few weeks of the new academic year.

Due the the current climate this work is not compulsory but if you would like your child to complete it please click here to download the project and aim to submit this work to your child’s form tutor in September.

Induction Days

Induction for your child and therefore the first day of school will be Thursday 3rd September 2020. There will be 2 induction days where Year 7 and Year 11 will be the only students on site. This is to ensure we are able to give your child a more attentive start to their academic year after a long period of uncertainty. During these two days they will spend time getting to know each other and their form tutors as well as the school building and where everything is.

For the first day your child is expected to have full uniform in line with the school policy from the recommended suppliers. Blazers are compulsory and no trainers will be allowed. Please see the uniform section of our website. They are also expected to have their school bag, with their WOA pencil case (or their own pencil case), water bottle (this is also currently compulsory), pack lunch if required and any transition work they may have completed at home.

On their first day they will be expected to be onsite from 8:40am, ready for an 8:45am start. The school day finishes at 3:10pm and these are the timings at present for every day thereafter. On the first day we can appreciate that you may have wanted to walk them into school, but with the current climate we are asking that you to be mindful of the social distancing rules and where possible drop your child off and go. This will ensure swift movement of cars outside school and allow all parents, students and staff to stay safe.

The induction day timetable is to follow shortly.

We promise to take good care of them!
