A Message from the SENDCO
I am Tracy Cockayne and I am the SENDCo at Wodensborough Ormiston Academy. Previously, I worked as a SENDCO in another Sandwell school for over 10 years and I am passionate and dedicated to meeting the needs of all children. I realised that this was my path after completing work experience with children with Special Needs when I was at secondary school. I feel very fortunate to be part of a very special team at WOA and very lucky to work with such wonderful children.
I am very proud to also work with the talented leaders of our Focus Provisions. We also have two Focus Provisions, one for students who are DEAF and one for students who have AUTISM. If you have a child who would benefit from this special support, please call us to arrange a visit and speak to our staff. The ARC, our focused provision for children on the Autistic Spectrum, is led By Mrs K Morgan- Green. She is a specialist in Autism and ADHD and previously worked in a high-needs school in Dudley. The Deaf Academy is led by Mrs H Marshall, a very experienced Teacher of the Deaf, who leads a team of both Hearing and Deaf support staff.
We have Nurture groups in all KS3 year groups and these are led by our Assistant SENDCo, Mrs C Poynton. She has embedded the Nurture values into an enriched curriculum for those pupils with high needs, but within the mainstream school.
We are guided by the new Special Educational Needs and Disabilities [SEND] Code of Practice 2014 and we have embedded the advice and practice it recommends. You can find further information about our offer in our SEND Policy and the WOA Send Information report.
We are supported by Miss Brigham, our SEND Secretary. She is your first point of call when you need to contact us about your child.
We look forward to working with you as parents, and supporting your children to their bright and successful futures!
Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator SENDCO, Mrs T Cockayne – 0121 506 4300.
