Ofsted has praised Wodensborough Ormiston Academy (WOA) in Wednesbury for the progress being made at the school. Inspectors said that senior leaders and the academy’s sponsor, Ormiston Academies Trust (OAT) are taking “effective action” to drive improvement. They noted considerable improvements in the effectiveness of teaching and learning, resulting in improving levels of attainment. In its monitoring report, Ofsted highlighted how the restructured senior and middle management teams have strengthened capacity and driven “improvements in teaching and learning” at the academy.
Principal Leigh Moore, appointed in January 2016, has spearheaded this restructuring and the resulting improvement, with her clear vision for the school – Believe, Achieve, Succeed – which aims to raise aspirations and standards and ensure that all students have access to the best education possible in order to fulfil their potential.
Ofsted also referenced “the wide range of effective external support” provided to the academy by OAT, particularly noting the positive impact of mentoring and human resource support, opportunities for collaboration and best practice sharing with other OAT academies, as well as the extra capacity that the Trust has provided on a range of subjects helping to improve the skills and effectiveness of school staff.
Since joining OAT in 2013, the academy has made considerable progress, having been taken out of special measures in its first inspection after joining the Trust in October 2016, and now making good progress towards becoming a “Good” school.
The report also highlighted that:
Leigh Moore, Principal of Wodensborough Ormiston Academy, said:
“I am delighted that Ofsted has recognised the real progress being made at Wodensborough Ormiston Academy for the benefit of our students. I’d like to thank our dedicated staff and hard-working students, as well as our supportive parents, for what has been achieved so far.”
“We are a school on a journey and we will continue to work hard as team as we look to make further improvements and to raise aspirations and achievement for all our students”.
Jason Howard, Regional Director (West), Ormiston Academies Trust, said:
“We are delighted to see significant progress being made at Wodensborough Ormiston Academy. The report rightly recognises the commitment and hard work of the leadership team, which is delivering results.”
“Ormiston Academies Trust will continue to support the Academy on its journey of school improvement to ensure that every student, no matter what their background, is able to thrive.”
