Wodensborough Remains a Centre of Excellence (IQM)

Delighted staff and students at Wodensborough Ormiston Academy, are celebrating after receiving their third glowing report glowing report from the Inclusion Quality Mark assessors following their recent visit. The Academy, on Hydes Road in Wednesbury, continues to be recognised by the Inclusion Quality Mark as a Centre of Excellence.

Assessors visited the school in February this year and commented on the schools continued ‘fully inclusive provision.’. ‘The Academy is inclusive, not just in ethos and culture but also by virtue of its diverse population.’. In particular he highlighted the work of the academy in welcoming and supporting new arrivals ‘This provision at the Academy is a shining example and the dedication and skill of those staff involved is of the highest order.’

The assessor spent a significant amount of time speaking with students and commented ‘There was warm respect and admiration for the staff at the Academy. Students appreciated the support they receive, and one told me that “Teachers are very supportive and ambitious for us” and “They genuinely care about us and genuinely want us to succeed.” A Year 7 student described the transition process and spoke enthusiastically about the summer transition programme, which was provided by staff from the Academy. Students from Year 9 and Year 10 who had recently joined the Academy spoke highly of how the staff had helped them settle quickly’.

The assessor concludes ‘The Academy is rightly proud of its inclusive ethos and it is heartening to know that the integrity with which that ethos is upheld is strong despite the many challenges and pressures that leaders and staff face each day. Leaders and staff collectively are making a huge difference and they should be proud of their endeavours.’.

The report, written following the assessment, acknowledges the development journey the academy has been on, which is further supported by our recent HMI inspection.

Leigh Moore, Principal of Wodensborough Ormiston Academy said:

‘We are so immensely proud of the hard work, commitment and unwavering support of our students, staff and the local community. To be recognised as a centre of excellence for inclusion for the third consecutive year is a real honour. We are very much looking forward to being able to support other schools in their journey to achieving IQM accreditation and hopefully secure Flagship status for inclusion in 2021.’
