2019 HMI Monitoring Visit (Ofsted)

Delighted staff and students at Wodensborough Ormiston Academy, are celebrating after receiving a glowing report from Ofsted following their recent monitoring visit. The Academy, on Hydes Road in Wednesbury, was praised for being a ‘truly inclusive school’ by Jane Spilsbury, HMI, and in setting ‘high expectations in terms of behaviour and teaching.’

Inspectors visited the school at the end of January this year to check on progress made since the academy’s last Ofsted inspection, in which it was rated good in both the ‘Leadership and Management’ and ‘Personal development, behaviour and welfare’ categories. The Inspector found that the school ‘have addressed the areas for improvement from the last inspection effectively.’ and that ‘Pupils are well behaved and polite. Many have excellent attitudes to learning because they trust the teachers to help them do the best they possibly can.’

The report, published today following the one-day inspection, acknowledges the development journey the academy has been on after the inspector spent time in lessons, around the school site and meetings with students. She observed that the ‘quality of teaching is now more consistently effective’, with students commenting that they ‘recognise that the quality of teaching has improved and say that they now feel much more confident in their learning’. The inspector also noted that staff and students embody the academy’s vision to ‘Believe, Achieve, Succeed’ and that ‘pupils appreciate the many opportunities they have to learn outside lessons.’

The Inspector concludes by stating that ‘a great deal of hard work has gone into making the school the welcoming, supportive place it is today. Leaders ensure that pupils feel safe and are safe. Pupils receive counselling when they need it. Pupils say that teachers go the extra mile and are very committed to their well-being’.

The school, with the support of the Trust, will be continuing to work tirelessly to build on the progress and achievements noted in the report.

Leigh Moore, Principal of Wodensborough Ormiston Academy, said “I am so proud of all that we have achieved together in the last few years. I am delighted that our students now benefit from the excellent education and the fantastic opportunities and support that we provide. We are very confident that our rapid improvements will continue, and that WOA is now well on its way to being an excellent school for its students and local community.”
