Our science curriculum

The science curriculum aims to develop scientific knowledge and conceptual understanding through the specific disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics.

As a faculty our ethos is “opportunity to change the future for the better.” Science is all about change; our aim is to engage all students and help them identify and understand the changes in the world of science all around them, encouraging the curiosity of enquiring and analysing the world. Through our depth of curriculum, we aspire to equip learners with a variety of transferable skills that can be applied to the changing workplace and range of careers, not only in the field of Science. We strive to constantly evolve our curriculum to ensure students’ become masters in their knowledge of scientific concepts.

Students are introduced to the fundamentals in biology, chemistry and physics which form the building blocks for all other knowledge. Students are also taught the ‘vocabulary’ of science which are the skills that will underpin all aspects of science up to GCSE and beyond. Developing an understanding of the nature, processes and methods of science through different types of science enquiries helps students to answer scientific questions about the world around them.

Practical skills are an integral part of the science curriculum and we aim to build the confidence of all students’ skills at all key stages, encouraging participation in a range of different practical activities throughout the curriculum. We ensure our students are equipped with the scientific knowledge and skills required to understand the uses and implications of science today and for the future with a clear pathway of progression.
